Route 223 Observations 2011:Part 1 of 2-Farewell to the Marshall's

Route 223 began on the 21st January 1995. Running between Harrow and Wembley Central Station. Originally tendered to First Centrewest from there Alperton Garage. The route ran on Monday-Saturday with a PVR of 4 buses. Route 223 was made in effort to serve un-served roads in the South Kenton area and was also made to serve the withdrawn section of the 224 (withdrawn between Wembley and North Wembley). The route was operated with 4 midibuses. The route was  later retained by First on the 22nd March 1997 with 4 new buses.

On 13th October 2001, the route was retained and extended from Wembley Central Station to Wembley Central / Station Grove. Part of the retained contract / extension saw the route gain 5 existing Dart SLF/Marshall's off of route 224. On the 20th November 2004, Route 223 was retained by First. It was decided that route 223 was to have a Sunday operation opposed to the Monday-Saturday operation. This was to provide residents in the South Kenton area a link to Wembley Central and Harrow without getting on the tube.

On 15th October 2011, Route 223 was once again retained by First with 6 brand new Enviro200's to be operated from Alperton Garage. The brand new Enviro200's were delivered late causing some to enter service on the week of the 12th December 2011, but not all have entered service as yet (hences why we are seeing Marshalls on the route). But sadly we say good bye to the current buses the 223 uses. Marshall. The Marshall serving route 223 are currently 14/15 years old and will be truely missed.

Tomorrow I will be getting part 2 of Route 223's observations which will include images of the new buses on the route. This current post is about the Marshall's on the route. I do hope you sincerely enjoy this post!
