The 27th April 1991, a brand new route had began in the suburbs of south London. Originally running between Elephant & Castle and Catford Garage via Canada Water. Route 199 was made in effort to replace Route 1 and 108B between Surrey Quays and Lewisham. The route remained as it is until 18th September 1999 (give or take a few re-routeings in some areas). The 18th September 1999 saw route 199 be cut down from Elephant & Castle to Canada Water and on the 1st January 2000 the route was converted from a Leyland Titan operation to a Trident/ALX400 operation. The route was retained on 18th September 2004 with exisiting Tridents from Catford Garage.

On the 3rd December 2011, Route 199 was retained with brand new Enviro400's from Catford Garage. The new E400's contain a Voith Gearbox, they are 10.1m's long. I am currently unsure of the weight but I will let you know ASAP. Thanks for reading my post!
Great post, funny that the 199 has just received new vehicles as I have just recently been shown a document about extending the 199 from Canada Water to Elephant & Castle or Trafalgar Square this would be Rotherhithe New Road, Old Kent Road, Albany Road, Walworth Road, Elephant & Castle maybe onto Trafalgar Sq via Westminster Bridge this is a great idea for several areas of South London.
ReplyDeleteOh Really, That is funny, the extension will benefit a lot of areas. And thanks for your comment
