New DML's for 224

Route 224 operates between Wembley Stadium and St Raphael's via Park Royal. The route is operated from Alperton Garage situated in the North-West of London.


Alperton Garage holds roughly 71 buses, and runs routes 223, 224, 245, 487 and 24-hour route 83.

History of the route 224:

The route was introduced in February 1990, using MCW Metrobus                   double-deckers. The route was launched to replace the withdrawn section of route 226 between Wembley and Park Royal and the continued to Preston.

The next year, the route was converted to single decker operation using midibuses.

After an additional four years, the route was later withdrawn between Preston and Wembley Stadium Station as new route 223 took over this area.

Then in 2001, the route was also introduced as a Sunday service.

In October 2011, it was announced that Route 224 was bound to get 11 brand new Enviro 200's after First London successfully retaining the route. At this time route 224 was being ran between Wembley Stadium Station and Willesden Junction, but was later withdrawn from Willesden Junction and re-directed via 206 to St Raphael's.

Before and during the switchover, the Enviro 200's that are used on 245 have made multiple apperances to cover up for the loss of the Marshall's as the new DML's come into service!






Many seem to be excited over the new DML's for 224. I have to say that it is long waited, but still the same old story 24/7. Personally I think they look that great with First, but we all have different opinions.


Some things what the new DML's contain are:
-a batch of 11 buses (DML44209 - DML44220)
-a weight of U.W. 7641 KGS
-a body length of 10.25 metres
-a horsepower of 140 on a Alison Gearbox with a Cummins isBe Engine
-a seating capacity of 29
-Estaban Civic seats
