Go Ahead London's latest Enviro400's!
London Returns to Normality
Go Ahead London's newest E400s were originally ordered for the 280, and shortly before the Olympics it was decided that they will be moved to the 36 and the 280 to get 15 existing and refurbished PVL's instead!
Over the past 3 months, London has faced one of it's biggest challenges over the Summer: The Olympics.
Throughout the whole of September, London Bus Companies have been returning to normal service after their vehicles have been used on either Olympic shuttles or helping passenger increases on certain routes.
This series of posts will be on the buses used as Olympic Shuttles, as well as new arrivals for bus companies!
Part 2 : Go-Ahead London's new E's!This series of posts will be on the buses used as Olympic Shuttles, as well as new arrivals for bus companies!
Go Ahead London's newest E400s were originally ordered for the 280, and shortly before the Olympics it was decided that they will be moved to the 36 and the 280 to get 15 existing and refurbished PVL's instead!
Since the date the 54 Reg PVLs moved to the AL, they have been on almost every route! A similar thing has happened at New Cross Garage where Enviro 400's have worked on routes 21, 108, 171, 321, 436, N171 and of course the 36 which they are allocated to!
Out of all these routes, the 171 has had the most Enviro 400's running on it, with about 1-4 per day - when was the last time you saw a PVL?!
I personally think It has something to do with the fact that WVL396 - WVL412 are Camberwell Garage blinded and New Cross have no choice but to keep them on the 171/N171 as the only buses which can be intermixed on the 171 are WVL386 - WVL395 which are all NX.
Now, already, these buses have been used widely in many events:
- Olympic Shuttle Services
- Wimbledon Tennis Shuttles
- Hampton Court Flower Show Shuttles
- Farnborough Airshow Shuttle Services
- Rail Replacement Service
As well as been used in events, these buses have been used on numerous routes:
- Route 36
- Route 132
- Route 171
- Route 321
Now, many seem to be excited over the new E's but have to say that they are nothing special and they are just like the same buses at New Cross Garage (NX). Personally I think they look that great with Go-Ahead London, but they are just as good as the batch for the 36, but we all have different opinions!
Some things that the new E's contain are:
- a batch of 15 buses (E246 - E260)
- a batch of 15 buses (E246 - E260)
-a weight of U.W. 11595KGS
-a body length of 10.1 metres
-a horsepower of 250 on a ZF 6HP1203B 6 Speed Gearbox with a Euro 5 Cummins ISB6.7EV 6 cylinder turbocharged and inter-cooled Engine
-a seating spec of H41/24D-Estaban Civic seats
Here's the fleetlist:

When these buses were first introduced into service on the 132 during the Paralympic Games, company stickers had not yet been applied, but during their introduction to route 36, these stickers are now applied.

WVL 396 - 412 are blinded for Camberwell (Q) because last year, GAL wanted to close down Mandela Way. Which meant they had planned to move some buses around (1 and 453 to NX, 171 to Q). But the staff working at MW managed to save the garage and keep it open. I guess they just didn't bother to change the blinds back. And also, The 453 and 436 buses only have blinds for route 1 and 36 too. Any idea why?
ReplyDeleteR.E Nathan : Don't know but yes that was planning to do so.
ReplyDeleteNice enviro 400
If that move to NX for 1 and 453 expect the 1 to get Gemini 2
