Route 27 - About time for an upgrade
Over the last few weeks, new Enviro 400 Hybrids have been entering service on major trunk route 27, which runs between Chiswick Business Park and Chalk Farm. The route was recently retained by London United and a batch of 29 Hybrids - Numbered between ADH23 and ADH51 were ordered.
However, the 27 will not be fully made up of the new batch. Despite a PVR of 28 on this route, ADH1 and ADH2 have been drafted in from Hounslow Heath (HH) to top up the allocation on this route and provide additional spares within the fleet at Stamford Brook (V).
I believe this is a much needed upgrade for the route, the Omnidekkas are built to low height and unsuitable for tall passengers. When you compare that to other builders such as Wrightbus and ADL, they already were producing buses like the first generation Gemini and the ALX400 respectively - suitable in height. I felt for a major trunk route like the 27, vehicles like these are not suitable. Unfortunately I'll have to bicker on about these buses for another few years as the current 27 allocation will be transferred to Fulwell (FW) for the new Route 267 contract whilst it's own SLEs go off lease. Something to make me relieved is that the 13 will be getting Hybrids come this summer to replace it's own SLEs from the Transdev fleet.
Here ADH25 is seen at Paddington sampling the new face of the 27 for the next few years. Via the LVF website this bus was apparently performing a short to Notting Hill Gate without the driver changing the blinds!
Here ADH31 swings into the stand at Chalk Farm, waiting to complete a another trip on the 27.
Thanks for Reading!
